Liverpool are reportedly hopeful of sealing a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike within the next few days after agreeing a six-year contract with the striker.

Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt could potentially come to an agreement over a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike within the next few days after the striker gave the thumbs-up to personal terms with the Reds, a report has claimed.

Over the past 24 hours, Liverpool, Frankfurt and Newcastle United have found themselves in a fascinating transfer saga involving Ekitike and Magpies centre-forward Alexander Isak.

The Premier League champions apparently approached Newcastle to discuss a potential deal for Isak, while Eddie Howe's side were exploring an agreement for Ekitike at the same time and failed with a first offer of £70m.

However, Liverpool also expressed their interest in doing a deal for the latter in case their pursuit of Isak - who would command a Premier League-record fee to leave Newcastle - ended in failure.

Now, the Reds appear to have put all their eggs in the Ekitike basket, as journalist Ben Jacobs - via GIVEMESPORT - claims that the striker has given the green light to a six-year contract at Anfield.

The English champions are also said to have submitted one verbal offer in the region of £70m for the former Paris Saint-Germain striker, although it was turned down by Frankfurt, who had originally slapped an £85m price tag on his head.

However, the report claims that a deal might be doable within the £75m to £80m range instead, so long as Liverpool and Frankfurt can agree on a favourable payment structure for the striker.

Regardless, talks between the two clubs are already thought to be at an advanced stage, and it is not impossible to envisage a transfer fee being settled on within the 'next few days' as Ekitike is 'sold' on the move.

At the same time, Newcastle are supposedly turning their attention to Brentford's Yoane Wissa as they give up on a deal for Ekitike, but the Magpies are seemingly set to keep hold of the £150m-rated Isak.

If all goes well, Ekitike could become Liverpool's seventh new arrival this summer, following Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman to Anfield.

The less said about Ekitike's underwhelming spell at Paris Saint-Germain the better, but the 23-year-old has found his calling at Frankfurt, registering 40 direct goal contributions in 64 appearances in all competitions.

Ekitike has struck 26 goals of his own while providing 14 assists for Die Adler, including 15 efforts and eight helpers in the 2024-25 Bundesliga season, as well as four goals in the Europa League.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Ekitike has been told he plays in a similar way to personal icon and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, drifting infield from the wide areas to get shots away.

Over the past 365 days, the 2002-born striker has averaged 3.5 shot-creating actions per game and 3.04 progressive carries per game in the Bundesliga, although there are concerns about his Expected Goals (xG) underperformance.

Ekitike found the back of the net 15 times from an xG total of 21.6 in the 2024-25 Bundesliga season, but the Frenchman is nevertheless highly adept at both fashioning and taking chances.
