Liverpool could reportedly follow up the signing of Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz by moving for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer.
The Premier League champions are currently leading the race for Wirtz, who is said to be in favour of a move to Anfield over joining either Manchester City or Bayern Munich.
Arne Slot's side are understood to have submitted their first formal offer for the €150m-rated attacking midfielder, but they could face stern competition for his signature from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Nevertheless, former Premier League scout Mick Brown claims that Liverpool may step up their interest in Newcastle star Gordon after concluding their negotiations over a deal for Wirtz.
Brown, a former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers who remains very well-connected within the game, has said that the 24-year-old is considered among Liverpool's leading targets.

Newcastle's Gordon still on Liverpool's radar
However, he has suggested that the Merseyside giants may be required to generate funds from the sale of a first-team squad member before testing Newcastle's resolve.
Luis Diaz has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League, while Cody Gakpo is understood to have been identified as a possible target for Bayern Munich if they fail to tie down Leroy Sane to a new contract.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said: "Anthony Gordon is still on their radar. He's been one of the top names for Liverpool for a while. He's a Liverpool lad, was at Everton before, and they know him very well.
"They've been talking about Wirtz as well, and it looks like that deal is going to happen and they're getting closer to an agreement there, but that isn't going to stop them having a look at Gordon.
"They've got a few players there, Diaz, Gakpo, [Darwin] Nunez, and more who could leave and those sales would open to door for Gordon to come in. If they keep those players, they won't need both Gordon and Wirtz.

"But if they don't, Gordon is a player they're considering to come in as a direct replacement for the current attacking options, who Slot hasn't been convinced on."
Brown claims that Gordon came close to joining Liverpool last summer and told friends at the time that he was 'very keen' on a move to Anfield.
Could Gordon return to Merseyside this summer?
Gordon joined Everton's academy as an 11-year-old following his release from Liverpool and went on to make 78 first-team appearances for the Toffees before joining Newcastle for a reported £45m in January 2023.
The England international has since established himself as an important senior figure in Eddie Howe's squad, contributing to 22 goals and 23 assists in 106 games across all competitions, including nine goals and seven assists in 42 matches in 2024-25.
Gordon committed his future to Newcastle in October last year when he penned a new long-term contract, and Howe would ideally like to keep hold of the winger ahead of competing in next season's Champions League.
