Liverpool suffer a fresh injury blow with striker Darwin Nunez, who is left out of the matchday squad for Monday's Premier League visit to Leicester City.

Liverpool have suffered a fresh injury blow concerning striker Darwin Nunez, who was left out of the matchday squad for Monday's Premier League visit to Leicester City.

The Uruguayan was able to complete 65 minutes of last weekend's 1-0 success over Brentford and had largely trained normally prior to the tip to the King Power Stadium.

However, Nunez was nowhere to be seen on the squad list on Monday evening, and Jurgen Klopp subsequently revealed that the forward had picked up a toe problem on Sunday.

"Yesterday we trained and he looked OK but afterwards he said he felt something in his toe so we had to make a decision," Klopp said ahead of kickoff.

Without Nunez or Roberto Firmino in the fold, Klopp named a front three of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz for Monday's game, with Diogo Jota also among the substitutes.

Despite facing criticism since his £64m move from Benfica in the summer, Nunez has recorded a respectable 15 goals and four assists from 42 matches in his debut season for the Reds.

Victory for Liverpool at the King Power would take them to within one point of fourth-placed Manchester United, although the Red Devils would have a game in hand.
