Los Angeles Galaxy edge a five-goal thriller to beat Dallas 3-2 at the StubHub Center and move to the top of the Western Conference table.

Los Angeles Galaxy edged a five-goal thriller to beat Dallas 3-2 at the StubHub Center in their Major League Soccer clash.

The Galaxy made a quick start to the match, as Giovanni dos Santos struck a free kick from just outside the Dallas penalty area narrowly wide.

The visitors came close to taking the lead moments later, as Je-Vaughn Watson headed wide from a Michael Barrios corner.

Los Angeles took the lead on 11 minutes, as Gyasi Zardes found Dos Santos inside the penalty area, and the Mexican forward finished from close range.

Just three minutes later the Galaxy doubled their lead, as Dos Santos found Robbie Keane in the Dallas box, before the Irish hitman produced a clinical finish into the bottom-right corner of the net.

Steven Gerrard missed two chances to add a third goal for Los Angeles, as the former Liverpool captain headed wide from a Dos Santos corner, before the midfielder hit a shot from outside the area high and wide of the Dallas goal.

Dallas pulled a goal back before half time, as Mauro Diaz found Barrios, who headed past Donovan Ricketts in the Galaxy goal.

After the break, Gerrard forced a good save from Jesse Gonzalez, before Tesho Akindele tested Ricketts at the other end of the pitch.

The hosts added a third goal on 57 minutes through Gerrard, who produced a good finish from a tight angle to score his first goal for the Galaxy since July.

Dallas came close to pulling a goal back soon after, as both Fabian Castillo and Kellyn Acosta fired wide in quick succession, before Castillo forced a decent save from Ricketts.

The visitors scored a second goal on 86 minutes to set up a nervy finish for the Galaxy, as Atiba Harris fired past Ricketts from inside the penalty area.

However, Los Angeles Galaxy held on to win the match 3-2 and move to the top of the Western Conference table.
