Luis Fernando Suarez has admitted that he is "sad" to have failed to fulfil his aims at Honduras after stepping down as manager.

The 54-year-old announced in the aftermath of his side's 3-0 World Cup defeat against Switzerland that he would be resigning from his position.

Los Catrachos finished bottom of Group E having failed to pick up a single point from their three games in the competition.

"I am not satisfied by what we achieved at the World Cup," Suarez is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "The team will have good results in the future, but someone can replace me.

"I am sad I didn't manage to fulfil the mission they entrusted me with. I'm going to go on with my career. I still have a lot of will to work and do things for soccer. I will be always be connected and listening to news about Honduras and always try to help them."

Suarez took over at the Central American outfit in 2011.
