Everton make Nottingham Forest's 21-year-old forward Brennan Johnson their top transfer target for this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Everton have made Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson their top transfer target for this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

The 21-year-old was recently named the Championship's young player of the season following the Welshman's impressive debut campaign in the second tier, where he netted 16 goals and registered 10 assists in 46 league appearances.

Johnson and Forest will play their final game of the season in the Championship playoff final against Huddersfield Town at Wembley on Sunday, looking to end the club's 23-year exile from the top flight.

The outcome of that game could have a huge impact on Johnson's future according to the Daily Mail, who report that the forward could be set to leave the City Ground should Forest fail to achieve promotion.

Frank Lampard's Everton have made Johnson their primary target for the upcoming transfer window according to the report, who believe that they can beat off competition from the likes of Brentford, Leicester City and Newcastle United for the youngster's signature.

Johnson will enter the final 12 months of his contract with Forest this summer, and the report outlines how Forest remain confident that they can tie down his future at the City Ground should they achieve promotion to the top flight on Sunday.

Should they fail, £20m is reported to be the figure required to persuade the Reds to part ways for Johnson, who came through the academy at the East Midlands side to follow in the footsteps of his father David Johnson, who played for the club between 2000 and 2006.
