Everton are reportedly considering an approach for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams as John Stones continues to be linked with a switch to Manchester City.

Swansea City defender Ashley Williams has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Everton as they prepare for the possible departure of John Stones.

The highly-rated 22-year-old has been linked with a big-money switch to Manchester City, although the two clubs continue to disagree over a fee for the England international.

However, according to The Mirror, Everton have started to plan for Stones's exit and that includes Williams being identified as a potential signing.

Williams has spent over eight years at the Liberty Stadium but he is expected to attract significant interest before the end of the transfer window after helping Wales to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

It has been suggested that Everton would be prepared to pay £10m for the 31-year-old but the Welsh side could demand more for a player who has made over 300 appearances for the club.
