Winston Reid: 'West Ham United must put things right'

Winston Reid admits that it is vital for West Ham United to overcome NK Domzale in their Europa League qualifier if they are to continue growing as a club.

West Ham United defender Winston Reid has confessed that the pressure is on his side to rectify last week's surprise defeat to Slovenian minnows NK Domzale.

The Hammers were beaten 2-1 in the first leg of their third-qualifying round tie and must now turn things around on home soil this evening.

Domzale's visit to East London will mark United's first-ever match at the Olympic Stadium, which Reid admits will add a "different" element to the must-win European tie.

"It was disappointing last week. We wanted to go there and get a result," he told the club's official website. "Thursday we have an opportunity to put things right, and we need to do it. We want to be in the next round. It's important for the club to be in Europe because we want to grow. As players, we want to experience it and we want to progress.

"We want to make sure we get the right result to proceed. We're ready for the task that lies ahead of us. We are going to approach the game like we approach all games. We didn't do well last week and we need to out a much better performance on tomorrow. We've been talking about this for a long time and it will be nice to get out there for the first game.

"In some ways it will be different for us, but I think we've got used to the idea now that we have moved and today we got the chance to get out on it, and tomorrow we'll be ready for it. It is our new home and I'm sure everyone's been looking forward to it for a while now."

If West Ham fail to beat Domzale tonight, it will be the first time in their history that they have gone five European matches without a win.
