Ecuador and Senegal will each be looking to end streaks at the World Cup when they square off at the Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday.

Ecuador and Senegal will be hopeful of ending World Cup streaks when they do battle on Tuesday.

Both nations head into their fixture at the Khalifa International Stadium knowing that they have the opportunity to progress through to the knockout stages.

A draw will be good enough for Ecuador to finish in the top two of Group A, while Senegal are likely to require all three points due to Netherlands facing already-eliminated Qatar.

However, history is not in the favour of either side as they bid to earn rare appearances in the last 16 of this tournament.

While Ecuador reached the second round back in 2006, they have never come through their three group-stage fixtures without suffering at least one defeat.

La Tricolor would have done so in 2014 had their not suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Switzerland courtesy of a 93rd-minute goal.

From Senegal's perspective, the Africa Cup of Nations champions have never defeated a South American nation at a World Cup.

In 2002, the Lions of Teranga were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Uruguay, while they succumbed by a 1-0 scoreline to Colombia four years ago.

Both of those fixtures came on matchday three in the round-robin phase, and there is scope for lightning striking a third time in Al Rayyan.

On a more positive note for Ecuador, they have Enner Valencia attempting to achieve something that has never been done in this competition.

With his goal against Netherlands, Valencia joined a list of three players who have scored six successive goals for their nation at a World Cup.

Valencia has already become the next player to joint that esteemed list since 1994, and the 33-year-old now has the chance to break the long-standing record.
