Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to sign Ross Barkley for £25m, which is half of Everton's valuation of the midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly feel that they can clinch Ross Barkley's signature from Everton for half of what his club are asking for.

The Merseyside outfit are believed to be holding out for £50m, despite the fact that the midfielder's contract will expire at the end of the season.

Spurs have been the frontrunners for Barkley's signature for some time, but it has been reported that Chelsea are also looking at the England international as a possible option to bolster their midfield.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy believes that the 23-year-old is closer to £25m than £50m due to his contract length, as well as Ronald Koeman's admission that the player does not have a future at Goodison Park.

The North London club are wary that Chelsea could swoop in with around three weeks left until the transfer window slams shut.

Barkley did not take part in any of Everton's pre-season schedule, partly due to a groin injury.
