Ryan Christie knows RB Leipzig clash is a must-win game for Celtic

The Hoops lie third in Group B.

Ryan Christie knows the importance of Celtic’s UEFA Europa League clash with RB Leipzig at Parkhead on Thursday night.

Following their 2-0 defeat at the Red Bull Arena two weeks ago, the Scottish champions are third in Group B with three points from the first three games.

Austrian side Salzburg top the group with nine points with RB Leipzig on six points and boss Brendan Rodgers acknowledged it was a must-win game with Christie hoping home advantage can make the difference.

The 23-year-old attacker said: “It’s a huge game, we know that. The boys in the squad know that.

“We’re desperate to get a win at home and want to have a right go at getting out of this group.

“It’s going to be tough. It was tough out there, but we had a lot of positives to take from that game and we’re looking to take that into tonight.

“We started the game over there well but didn’t really capitalise on that.

“Once we conceded over there, we let the game slip away from us, but it’s about having that confidence, and we’re always confident at home in Europe. They’re coming to our patch now.”

Celtic have scored 23 goals in their last five domestic games while conceding just two and Rodgers wants his side to bring out their best in their bid to get back in the qualification mix.

He said: “We are certainly in a much better place than we were a number of weeks ago.

“The team is really confident and playing well, scoring goals and defensively strong.

“We know it is a tough game for us but we love playing at Celtic Park and we know that if we are to progress or have any opportunity to progress to the group stages,  it is a game that we have to win.

“People will look at it as a pressure game but not every pressure situation is a negative.

“I think, I always seen the pressure moments as opportunities for you to go and show your qualities.”
