Championship club Cardiff City announce that they have parted company with manager Steve Morison.

Cardiff City have announced that they have parted company with manager Steve Morison.

The Bluebirds have collected 11 points from their opening 10 matches in the Championship, leaving the club in 18th position in the standings heading into the international break.

Wins have been recorded against each of Norwich City and Middlesbrough, the latter coming earlier this week, and the Welsh outfit sit four points adrift of the playoff positions.

However, Saturday's 1-0 defeat at struggling Huddersfield Town has led to the Cardiff board bringing Morison's 11-month reign to an end.

A club statement read: "Cardiff City can confirm that first team manager Steve Morison has been relieved of his duties.

"We'd like to thank Steve for his efforts during his time at Cardiff City, stabilising the first team last season and helping to evolve our squad in line with the club's philosophy this summer. We wish him the best for the future.

"Mark Hudson will oversee first team affairs at this time, assisted by Tom Ramasut, whilst the club considers options for the position."

When Morison took charge of Cardiff in October last year, the club were sitting 22nd position in the table having accumulated just 11 points from 14 matches.

However, Morison would help the club from the relegation places to 18th spot, Cardiff ultimately finishing 16 points clear of the bottom three.

While Cardiff have picked up just five points from their most recent seven fixtures, a change in manager at this stage of the season has come as a surprise.

Cardiff do not return to action until they play host to Burnley on October 1.
