Ivan Toney says that Brentford "played like a bunch of kids" as they lost 4-0 to managerless Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Ivan Toney has described Brentford's performance during their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa as a "shambles".

The Bees made the trip to the West Midlands full of confidence having collected four points against Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea without conceding a goal.

Brentford may have also been encouraged by the disarray at their opponents, who sacked Steven Gerrard on Thursday after a 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

However, Brentford found themselves three goals down after just 14 minutes as they were blown away by a resurgent Villa side under caretaker boss Aaron Danks.

While the West Londoners were able to keep the scoreline down to 4-0, it was a momentum-halting blow as they bid to remain in mid-table.

The capitulation comes just 15 days after Thomas Frank insisted that Brentford would not produce another display like the one in their 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United in their previous away fixture.

After the game, Toney did not hold back when delivering criticism of the performance, stating that the visitors had "played like a bunch of kids".

As quoted by BBC Sport, Toney said: "Shambles, to be honest. Shambles. They fully deserved the result and it could have been more. We were like a bunch of kids out there. I don't mind losing games but not like that. Embarrassing performance from the boys.

"We knew what they were about, we knew they had quality throughout the team. They put in a performance today and deserved to win.

"Fifteen minutes in, 3-0 down. That cannot happen in a Premier League game. We had it against Newcastle and we bounced back so hopefully we can do that again."

Rather than extend their unbeaten streak to three matches, Brentford have now recorded just one win in their last six outings.

Brentford return to action on October 29 when they play host to struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers.
