Result: Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 05 to secure successive wins

Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 4-2 to record consecutive Bundesliga wins for the first time since August.

Borussia Dortmund prevailed in a six-goal thriller with Mainz 05 this evening to record consecutive Bundesliga wins for the first time since August.

Jurgen Klopp's men overturned an early deficit at the Westfalenstadion with two goals at the start of the second half, only for the visitors to quickly equalise.

However, another swift double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nuri Sahin earned their side a 4-2 victory which takes them four points clear of safety.

Dortmund beat Freiburg 3-0 last weekend to move out of the relegation zone with a first win in six games, but went behind inside the first minute as Roman Weidenfeller's scuffed clearance was collected by Elkin Soto, who smartly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.

The hosts nearly levelled four minutes into a dramatic opening to the contest as sought-after playmaker Marco Reus, who signed a new contract this week, rattled the post from the edge of the box.

More equalising chances came and went as Mainz keeper Stefanos Kapino produced a crucial save to deny Aubameyang, after the striker had been released by Shinji Kagawa's inch-perfect through ball.

In the final stages of the half, Kapino's poor punch saw Kagawa come close with a half-volley that whistled past the post, while Reus fired over from 12 yards after being picked out by a Lukasz Piszczek cross.

The interval did not halt Dortmund's momentum and Neven Subotic headed them level four minutes into the second period before Reus put them ahead by rounding Kapino from Kevin Kampl's pass and slotting home.

Mainz, who had previously only had one shot on target, equalised immediately as Yunus Malli finished emphatically on 57 minutes, after the referee had played advantage to allow Soto to release his teammate.

Dortmund were straight back on the front foot and retook the lead with a worthy winning goal. Man of the match Reus crossed with the outside of his foot for Aubameyang to control and poke past Kapino.

Sahin made sure of the points which see Klopp's men leapfrog Mainz in the table on 78 minutes, with the busy Kapino parrying Aubameyang's free kick into his path to present him with his first goal of the season.
