Result: Borussia Dortmund confirm second place

Borussia Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 3-2 to confirm second place in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed second place in the Bundesliga with a 3-2 home win over Hoffenehim on Saturday afternoon.

The away side took advantage of some dreadful early defending from the hosts, as Sebastian Rudy blocked a clearance from Sokratis Papastathopoulos before laying off Roberto Firmino for a fifth-minute lead.

Shortly after the opener Hoffenheim could have gone 2-0 ahead as Firmino found Kevin Volland, but the striker's shot was cleared off the line.

Both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Robert Lewandowski came close for the home side, before Volland struck narrowly wide, but Dortmund were finally level just before half an hour had gone.

Kevin Grosskreutz cut in onto his right foot before clipping a curled effort into the corner, and two minutes later his side were in front as Mkhitaryan headed in a Marco Reus cross.

Then in another two minutes Dortmund suddenly looked comfortable, with Lukasz Piszczek striking a half-volley into the top corner for a solid half-time lead.

Hoffenheim were back to within one goal with 25 minutes left to play after another defensive error. Roman Weidenfeller let a speculative shot from Niklas Sule through his legs, but fortunately for him his side held on for the win.
