Southampton have completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Bayern Munich on a five-year deal.

The 20-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Southampton emerging as the favourites to secure his signature in recent weeks.

Bayern Munich confirmed earlier today that the Danish midfielder was undergoing a medical at St Mary's, and Southampton have now officially announced his arrival on a long-term contract.

"Of course I'm very pleased, it's a big opportunity for me. I like it, I have seen the training centre, the people around it and I must say I am feeling very positive about this," he told the club's official website.

"I really look forward to give what I have and what I can to the club. They trust me, and I want to show them that they are not wrong."

Hojbjerg made his senior debut for Bayern in 2013 but failed to nail down a regular starting spot and spent last season on loan at Schalke 04.
