Goals from Philipp Lahm and Mario Mandzukic give Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich a 2-0 win against his former side Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola led his Bayern Munich side to a 2-0 win against his former club Barcelona in a pre-season friendly, courtesy of goals from Philipp Lahm and Mario Mandzukic.

Both clubs selected strong lineups for the clash, with Bayern naming former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara in a three-man midfield with Toni Kroos and Lahm.

Barca had Lionel Messi in their starting side, while there were also roles for Martin Montoya, Sergi Roberto and Adriano for the Spanish outfit.

Messi had a half-chance inside the opening minute, but the Argentine's effort was blocked by Jerome Boateng. Moments later Kroos had an effort down the other end, but Jose Pinto was on hand to make the save.

Bayern took the lead after 14 minutes when Lahm flicked a Franck Ribery cross into the back of the net from close range. Arjen Robben came close to extending their lead five minutes later, but he could only fire high and wide from inside the box.

Messi had another half-chance for Barcelona from a free kick after 33 minutes, but the Argentine curled his effort high and wide of the crossbar.

Both sides had chances in the latter stages of the half, but neither could find that elusive pass in the final third as Bayern entered the break with their one-goal lead in tact.

Facing his old side for the first time since leaving the club in 2012, Guardiola made the changes as the second half progressed, while the Catalan outfit fielded an entirely different XI after the restart.

The Barcelona youngsters kept the ball impressively, but found it difficult to break down the European champions, with Xherdan Shaqiri causing problems on the break following his introduction at half time.

Shortly before leaving the pitch in the 68th minute, Ribery wriggled free inside the penalty area, but Oier smothered his low shot.

With Barcelona searching for an equaliser, Diego Contento broke the offside trap and laid the ball across goal for Mandzukic to tap into an empty net from six yards.
