Aston Villa have reacted angrily at Sevilla's decision to pull out of a deal for defender Jordan Amavi.

On Saturday it was confirmed that the Villans had agreed a fee - thought to be £8.5m - with the La Liga side for the services of the 23-year-old, who has been with the Midlands outfit for two years.

Yesterday it emerged that the left-back had failed his medical, however, although the exact reason was not given.

Sevilla are subsequently thought to have offered to take Amavi on loan in a move that has infuriated Villa owner Dr Tony Xia.

"Jordan Amavi's medical report was good," he wrote on Twitter. "Someone hi-level didn't agree with the transfer and found a reason of injury history which is really unfair to Jordan Amavi.

"[It's] very low. I have to say, from a businessman's viewpoint. Credibility and integrity is something very basic."

Villa have yet to confirm whether they will accept Sevilla's counter-offer to take Amavi on loan.

Jordan Amavi of Aston Villa is challenged by Graziano Pelle of Southampton during the Capital One Cup Fourth Round match between Southampton v Aston Villa at St Mary's Stadium on October 28, 2015 in Southampton, England.
