Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi's proposed move to Sevilla is cancelled after he fails his medical.

Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi's proposed £8.5m move to Spanish side Sevilla has been called off after the Frenchman failed his medical.

The Midlands outfit confirmed on Saturday that they had agreed a fee with Sevilla for the 23-year-old and wished him "good luck for the future".

According to Diario de Sevilla, however, the deal is now off after "extensive medical testing" proved "unsatisfactory" for the club.

The exact reason for the failed test has not been revealed, although just months after his arrival at Villa Park in the summer of 2015, Amavi suffered an ACL tear which kept him on the sidelines for nine months.

Amavi made 34 appearances for Steve Bruce's side in the Championship last term but was unable to help them get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Jordan Amavi of Aston Villa is challenged by Graziano Pelle of Southampton during the Capital One Cup Fourth Round match between Southampton v Aston Villa at St Mary's Stadium on October 28, 2015 in Southampton, England.
