Team News: Stoke City start with new-look attack

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes hands debuts to strike duo Bojan and Mame Biram Diouf for their opening Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

Strike duo Bojan and Mame Biram Diouf have both been handed their first start for Stoke City in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

The pair, who have been signed from Barcelona and Hannover 96 respectively, have been preferred to last season's regulars Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters, who both begin the game on the bench.

Defender Phil Bardsley, who moved to the Britannia Stadium from Sunderland, starts at right-back, but Steve Sidwell begins life at the Potters on the bench.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has given new signings Philippe Senderos, Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson places in his starting lineup, but Joe Cole misses out through injury.

Captain Ron Vlaar takes his place in defence, despite speculation regarding his future, while Gabriel Agbonlahor is preferred to Darren Bent up front.
