Aston Villa will be looking to avoid ending a 65-year streak when they face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Aston Villa will be attempting to avoid ending a 65-year streak when they face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

When Unai Emery initially arrived at Villa Park, he triggered an immediate upturn in fortunes, moving the club away from the relegation zone.

That remains the case with Villa eight points clear of the bottom three, but the West Midlands outfit have lost their last three fixtures in the top flight, the only team to do so.

Villa twice led against Leicester City before succumbing to a 4-2 defeat, and they found themselves three goals down to Manchester City at half time ahead of a 3-1 loss.

Last weekend, Villa replicated the series of events from the Leicester game versus Arsenal, twice holding an advantage before half time before they were on the negative end of a 4-2 scoreline.

Emery has now lost six of his 12 matches in charge in all competitions and is in charge of a team that possesses the joint-fifth worst defensive record in the division.

When Villa make the trip to Goodison Park on Saturday, they will be attempting to extend a seven-match unbeaten run against Everton which has lasted since their return to the top flight in 2019.

However, Villa will also be hoping to avoid breaking a streak which has lasted since September 1958 by producing a far more efficient performance at the back.

Not since then have Villa conceded at least three times in four successive top-flight fixtures, although they are playing opponents who are not known for scoring goals.

Everton have netted just 11 times in their 12 Premier League fixtures at Goodison Park during 2022-23, registering three goals on just one occasion.

Despite their struggles defensively, Villa have had no such issues in the final third, and Ollie Watkins has a club record in his sights.

The England international has netted in four successive Premier League fixtures, with no Villa player ever scoring in five matches in a row in this competition.
