Chelsea are reportedly considering whether to launch a January move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is currently serving an eight-month ban from football.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney during the January transfer window.

The Blues strengthened their forward options over the course of the summer, recruiting Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Deivid Washington.

Jackson, who joined from Spanish side Villarreal, has started all four of Chelsea's Premier League matches this season, scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over Luton Town on August 25.

Nkunku is yet to make his debut after sustaining an injury, while Washington is regarded as a prospect at the age of 18.

With Armando Broja still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Chelsea reportedly felt as though they were still light in the final third.

As a result, they considered signing another striker in the final days of the transfer window, before opting to buy playmaker Cole Palmer from Manchester City in a £42.5m deal.

With the transfer window currently shut for business, Chelsea are now drawing up plans for when the market reopens in January.

According to the Standard, Chelsea are considering whether to launch a January move for Brentford forward Toney.

The 27-year-old is currently serving an eight-month ban after admitting to 232 breaches of the Football Association's betting rules.

However, with his suspension set to expire on January 16, Toney is expected to attract interest from a number of clubs in the winter window.

Chelsea could face competition from London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, who are both believed to be among Toney's admirers.

With the player under contract with Brentford until June 2025, the Bees are believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £80m.

Toney has been prolific during his time with Brentford, scoring 68 goals in 124 appearances across all competitions.
