Crystal Palace are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Calum Chambers from Arsenal this summer, having previously seen a £16m bid rejected.

Crystal Palace have reportedly made progress in their attempts to sign Calum Chambers from Arsenal.

The Eagles are understood to have seen a £16m offer rejected for the defender earlier this summer, with the Gunners valuing Chambers at closer to £25m.

However, The Guardian reports that the two clubs remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached over a permanent transfer, with Palace having also considered a loan move for the 22-year-old.

Chambers spent last season out on loan at Middlesbrough, where he made 24 Premier League appearances but failed to prevent the club from being relegated to the Championship.

The England international has been told that his first-team opportunities could be limited at the Emirates Stadium next season, and so is open to a move away in search of regular Premier League football.

New Palace boss Frank de Boer is understood to see Chambers as an ideal fit into his preferred system as he looks to tweak the team's playing style from their time under Sam Allardyce.

The Eagles have only signed Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan so far this summer, although they are thought to be close to completing a deal for Ajax centre-back Jairo Riedewald.
