How Arsenal could line up against Sheffield United

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Sheffield United on Sunday.

Arsenal will be aiming to record their second victory in three days when they travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final clash.

Mikel Arteta's side picked up their first three points since the Premier League resumed against Southampton on Thursday, with goals from Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock keeping Arsenal's European aspirations alive.

The Gunners will now turn their attention to a competition which they have triumphed in a record 13 times, and the FA Cup could potentially represent Arteta's best route into European football for the 2020-21 campaign.

The clash with Sheffield United will be the second of three games for Arsenal in the space of a week, and Arteta is expected to rotate heavily with a hectic fixture schedule to contend with in the coming weeks.

With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for their quarter-final showdown with the Blades.

Arteta may revert to his tried-and-tested 4-2-3-1 formation against Chris Wilder's men, but the Arsenal boss already has several players he is unable to call upon for the visit to South Yorkshire.

Gabriel Martinelli, Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers are all sidelined for the Gunners, while Cedric Soares is not expected to feature either.

Things nearly went from bad to worse for Arteta when Kieran Tierney was forced off with muscle cramps against Southampton, but the left-back is fit enough to be involved at the weekend, although maybe not from the first whistle.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is said to have had a turbulent time at Arsenal with off-the-field problems, but the Englishman is back in the squad and could be in line for a start at right-back over Hector Bellerin.

Speaking of disciplinary issues, Matteo Guendouzi was left out of the squad to face Southampton after an altercation with Brighton & Hove Albion's Neal Maupay, but the midfielder could return for this one.

Sokratis has had his fair share of injury woes but is in contention to feature at Bramall Lane, and the Greek could be partnered by Thursday's man of the match Rob Holding. Fellow centre-back David Luiz is back from suspension and also available to be called upon.

Up top, Alexandre Lacazette may replace Nketiah as Arteta's number nine, and Willock's goal in midweek should be enough to earn him a role in the first XI ahead of Mesut Ozil, who is yet to play a single minute since the restart.

Reiss Nelson is expected to start on the right flank in place of Nicolas Pepe, and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to retain his place on the left given the absence of Martinelli.
