Legendary fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood has died at the age of 81.
The star came to prominence in the 1960s when she met Malcolm McLaren, with whom she opened the notorious store SEX on the King's Road, becoming known for new wave and punk fashion styles.
Westwood was also a staunch political activist and over the last decade had become a campaigner for climate change issues, civil rights and nuclear disarmament.
A statement on her social media accounts said: "Vivienne Westwood died today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London.
"The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better."
Westwood's husband of 30 years, her former fashion student Andreas Kronthaler, wrote in tribute: ""I will continue with Vivienne in my heart.
"We have been working until the end and she has given me plenty of things to get on with."
Westwood is survived by Andreas and her sons Ben and Joseph.
