Preview: Australia vs. England Second ODI - predicition, series so far, team news

Sports Mole previews Saturday's secoond one-day international between Australia and England, which will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

England will be looking for a positive result at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday after their first game since the T20 World Cup final ended in defeat.

Australia claimed a six-wicket victory in Adelaide, and they will wrap up a series victory if they can get the better of England in the second One-Day International.

Pat Cummins could not have wished for a better start to his tenure as Australia's ODI captain after he led his side to a relatively comfortable victory in the first match of the series.

Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first in proved to be a smart decision as Australia restricted England to 287-9 following three wickets apiece for the Australian skipper and Adam Zampa.

David Warner and Travis Head racked up 86 and 69 respectively to get the run chase off to an ideal start, before Steve Smith steered the innings home with an 80 not out, ensuring Australia head to Sydney with a 1-0 lead.

After winning their last two ODI international series, Australia are now only one game away from wrapping up a series victory over their great rivals.

Australia will be looking forward to Saturday's game after winning their last four ODI matches at the SCG, although the last team to win a 50-over game at the SCG was England.

The tourists were brought back down to earth in the first ODI after winning the T20 World Cup in Sunday's final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Only three players that featured in the final - captain Jos Buttler, Phil Salt and Chris Jordan - played at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, but many of those that were brought into the side failed to perform.

While the likes of Jason Roy, James Vince and Sam Billings offered very little with the bat, Dawid Malan scored 134 from 128 balls to help England set a competitive total.

Ultimately England were unable to stop Australia from reaching the target with 19 balls to spare, ensuring Buttler has begun all three of his series as ODI captain with a defeat.

As he looks to secure his first series victory as England's ODI skipper, Buttler will be keen for his side to draw level in Sydney and set up a series decider.

Josh Hazlewood was left out of the Australia side for the first ODI, as they opted to play two spinners - Ashton Agar and Zampa - and they could decide to name the same lineup for the match in Sydney.

After finishing with figures of 3-55 in the first match, Zampa's leg-spin will be crucial to Australia's chances of claiming a series victory in Sydney.

Smith will be looking to continue his impressive run of form after scoring 61, 105 and 80 in his last three ODI innings.

As for England, four of the eleven players that started the T20 World Cup final were left out of the side for the first ODI, but Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid could all return in Sydney.

England will be hoping Curran can transfer his form from the T20s to ODI cricket after the left-arm seamer was awarded player of the tournament.

Malan was not fit enough to feature in the final, but after scoring a century at the Adelaide Oval, he will be important to England's batting efforts in the second ODI.

Australia: Pat Cummins (capt), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

England squad: Jos Buttler (capt), Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Olly Stone, James Vince, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Luke Wood

We say: England to win

After being brought back down to earth by Australia in the first ODI, England will be keen to level the series, and with a number of key players set to return to the side, we think the tourists will beat their rivals on Saturday.
