Kal Yafai: 'Moving down to flyweight will suit me'

Kal Yafai insists that dropping down to flyweight won't be an issue as he targets a significant fight in Birmingham in May.

Kal Yafai has admitted that he can't afford to overlook Cristofer Rosales as he targets a significant fight in the flyweight division in May.

The unbeaten British fighter has dropped down from super-flyweight to face the Nicaraguan in Sheffield on Saturday night, with a win potentially setting him up for an opportunity to compete for the WBC silver title on his return to Birmingham in six weeks' time.

The 25-year-old is quoted by BoxingScene.com as saying: "I'm moving back down to flyweight, which made common sense because I was weighing in light at super-flyweight. My team and nutritionist had a chat and measured me up for flyweight and it was decided that I could do that weight without a struggle.

"Eddie Hearn is looking at the WBC silver belt for Birmingham but I've got to keep my eye on Rosales because I know he will come to have a go. He's only 20, got ambitions, he's ranked at 14 with the WBC and can punch a bit. He should be a good test."

Yafai is currently unbeaten in 13 fights, with nine of his victories coming by stoppage.
