British number four Dan Evans is out of the Nottingham Open after losing in three sets to Pablo Cuevas.

Dan Evans has suffered a three-set defeat to Pablo Cuevas in the third round of the Nottingham Open.

The British number four missed a chance to serve out the match in the second set and he was made to pay as he succumbed to a 6-7 7-6 6-4 loss to the second seed.

Cuevas - who is ranked at number 25 in the world rankings - started aggressively but he was soon pegged back by Evans who eventually came through the first set in a tie-break.

He also broke in the second to set up an opportunity to serve for the match at 5-4, but he was broken back by the Uruguayan who edged a tie-breaker to set up a tense last set.

Both players dominated on serve until the ninth game when Cuevas struck and he served out the next game with minimal fuss to book his place in the quarter-finals.
