Anfield to host rugby league's Four Nations final in November

The 2016 Four Nations final will be contested at Anfield, while London's Olympic Stadium will also host a group-stage match.

Anfield will stage its first rugby league fixture in 19 years after being selected as the venue for this year's Four Nations final.

The month-long tournament, which is contested between England, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia, gets underway in October.

Only twice before has the sport been played at the home of Liverpool - the 1991 World Club Challenge and a Super League match in 1997 between St Helens and Castleford Tigers.

London's Olympic Stadium has also been chosen, playing host to England vs. Australia in the final group match of the competition.

Speaking to BBC Sport, England captain Sean O'Loughlin said: "Playing at iconic venues such as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Anfield is one of the reasons we play the game.

"Walking out in front of 45,000 fans in London last year was one of the highlights of 2015 for me and I am sure that playing in front of big home crowds will push the team on to what will hopefully be a successful campaign."

England and Scotland have never won the Four Nations, while New Zealand and Australia have lifted the trophy twice apiece in the four instalments of the competition since 2009.
