Hull FC prop Mickey Paea suggests that there is no reward for effort, after his side succumbed to a 20-34 defeat by the Huddersfield Giants in the Super League Super 8s.

Hull FC prop Mickey Paea has suggested that there is no reward for effort, after his side were beaten by Huddersfield Giants on Friday evening.

The East Yorkshire outfit were defeated 20-34 by the Giants, who have qualified for the Super League playoffs, and Paea believes that his side came up just short in the match.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Paea said: "It has been the story of our season. You can never fault this team's effort, we got a lot of pats on the back after the performance at Wigan and we tried to bounce off that. But we were just short again.

"We got ourselves in the game and gave ourselves every opportunity, but we were our own worst enemy. We shot ourselves in the foot and you can't do that against these top teams. They will make you pay for it.

"There's no reward for effort. The effort from the boys is outstanding, but we are just not quite getting on the other side. We are not far away, we have showed that, so on to this week now and our last game."

Hull FC will take on the Catalans Dragons in their final Super League Super 8s fixture on Sunday.
