Team GB have taken silver in the women's 8s event at the Rio Olympics.

Team GB have taken a historic silver medal in the women's 8s event at the Rio Olympics.

The team finished with a time of 6:03.98 at the Lagoa to claim GB's first ever Olympic medal in the event, although a photo finish was called upon to determine their place on the podium.

Just 0.12s separated GB from the eight women of Romania, who were forced to settle for a bronze medal with a time of 6:04.10.

As expected, the United States stormed to victory with a time of 6:01.49 to claim their third successive gold medal in the event.

Team GB still lead the way in the rowing medals table, with a tally of two golds and two silvers, while Team USA sit seventh with a gold and a silver.
