Severe storms have struck the Dutch coastal town of Zandvoort, causing flooding and structural damage to the region, including to the town's Formula 1 circuit, just five weeks before the scheduled Dutch Grand Prix.

The extreme weather began Sunday night, with torrential rain inundating parts of the municipality. Water levels reportedly reached between 40 and 50 centimeters in some areas after a nearby watershed overflowed.

“This Monday has not been an easy day for the residents of Zandvoort,” Soy Motor reported.

Social media posts suggested the F1 venue was among the affected sites, with images showing flooded access roads, significant erosion, and visible damage to the circuit surface, particularly near the iconic banked final corner.

“There goes Zandvoort,” read the caption of one photo showing the aftermath. The flooding also forced the cancellation of a planned hydrogen vehicle test by students from Delft University, who were due to run their car on the track.

“Our car runs on hydrogen, but it can't handle that much water,” student Renzo Bootsma told NOS.

“It's a shame, because tonight we were going to do a longer test drive for the first time.”

With just over a month until the Dutch Grand Prix is set to take place, circuit officials have not yet issued a public statement regarding the extent of the damage or the timeline for repairs.
