Madrid remains firmly on course to join the Formula 1 calendar, despite recent doubts.
The Spanish capital has secured a long-term deal to host a grand prix on a new street circuit dubbed 'Madring' from 2026 and ten years beyond.
However, recent reports highlighted delays in starting construction, which has still yet to commence at all.
On Monday, Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida provided an update to Telemadrid.
"We have already put out to tender the contract for the construction of the circuit," he said.
He added: "We will grant the license immediately, after Easter, so the works should, in principle, begin in May to accommodate the 2026 calendar."
