Watford could become the first team in Premier League history to concede in 18 successive home games when they face Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Watford face breaking an unwanted Premier League record when they take on Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The Hornets go into the contest sitting 18th in the table, four points adrift of safety despite a 1-0 win away to Aston Villa at the weekend.

The victory over Villa was Roy Hodgson's first since he took over and also ended a 12-match winless run in all competitions which included 10 defeats.

However, Watford remain winless at Vicarage Road since November 20, losing all six of their home games since beating Manchester United 4-1.

Watford's wait for a Premier League clean sheet in front of their own fans stretches back even further, almost two years since their memorable 3-0 win over Liverpool on February 29, 2020.

The Hornets have played 17 home games in the top flight without a clean sheet since then, and should they concede on Wednesday then they would be the first team in Premier League history to go 18 successive home matches without a clean sheet.

The last top-flight team to concede in 18 successive home games was Blackpool, who went 20 such matches without a clean sheet from April 1971 to April 2011.

Watford have already beaten Palace at home while keeping a clean sheet this season, winning 1-0 in the EFL Cup second round in August.
