Valencia welcomed Sevilla to the Mestalla on Sunday having picked up just three points from their first four league games.
The home side had the lead with 33 minutes on the clock when Jonas fired home from close range, with that strike all that separated the two teams at the interval.
Sevilla were level in the early stages of the second period when Kevin Gameiro converted from inside the box, but Jonas moved Valencia ahead with a curling effort 15 minutes from time.
The home side made sure of the points in the latter stages when Victor Ruiz headed into the back of the net from a difficult angle.
