Tottenham Hotspur expiring contracts: Who is free to leave this summer and next?

Sports Mole rounds up all of Tottenham Hotspur's expiring contracts for this season and next.

After a record-breaking start to the 2023-24 season under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur's brief Premier League title bid ended in failure, as did their ambitions to return to the Champions League.

Another rebuild is on the cards for the Australian's second campaign in charge, but the futures of a plethora of fringe players are overshadowed in a thick cloud of uncertainty.

A handful of names officially became ex-Tottenham players on June 30, with Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Ivan Perisic severing ties with the Lilywhites, while others are now in the final 12 months of their deals.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the Tottenham players whose contracts either expire at the end of June 2025, or in the summer of 2026.

Which Tottenham players are out of contract in the summer of 2025?

Son Heung-min

Age: 32
Position: Left winger
Transfer value: £38.5m
Joined: August 28, 2015
Joining fee: £25.7m
Tottenham appearances: 408
Tottenham goals: 162

Honours

  • Asian Games (1): 2019

  • Promoted to club captain for the 2023-24 season and excelling with the armband, Son Heung-min should be rewarded with a new contract in due course, but as things stand, the South Korean will be available on a free in 2025.

    Fraser Forster

    Age: 36
    Position: Goalkeeper
    Transfer value: £1m
    Joined: July 1, 2022
    Joining fee: Free
    Tottenham appearances: 21
    Tottenham clean sheets: 6

    Honours

  • Scottish Premiership (4): 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2019-20

  • Scottish Cup (3): 2010-11, 2012-13, 2019-20

  • Scottish League Cup (1): 2019-20

  • Retaining his status as Tottenham's number two last season, 36-year-old Fraser Forster may not have much time left in a Tottenham shirt, especially after Brandon Austin's recent contract extension.

    Ben Davies

    Age: 31
    Position: Left-back
    Transfer value: £8.6m
    Joined: July 23, 2014
    Joining fee: £10.8m
    Tottenham appearances: 330
    Tottenham goals: 9

    Honours

  • EFL Cup (1): 2012-13

  • The longest-serving player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, experienced left-back Ben Davies also struggled for regular minutes in 2023-24, but his situation remains on the unclear side.

    Sergio Reguilon

    Age: 27
    Position: Left-back
    Transfer value: £10.3m
    Joined: September 19, 2020
    Joining fee: £25.7m
    Tottenham appearances: 67
    Tottenham goals: 2

    Honours

  • Club World Cup (1): 2018-19

  • Europa League (1): 2019-20

  • Following a pair of Premier League loan spells with Manchester United and Brentford, Sergio Reguilon is back in North London but seemingly has no future with Tottenham, who should be open to acceptable bids for the Spaniard.

    Alfie Whiteman

    Age: 25
    Position: Goalkeeper
    Transfer value: £427,000
    Joined: 2008
    Joining fee: Free
    Tottenham appearances: 1
    Tottenham clean sheets: 1

    Honours

    None

English goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman helps to fulfil Tottenham's home-grown quota, but the 25-year-old has only ever made one appearance for the Lilywhites and will seemingly have to move on if he wishes to enjoy regular game time elsewhere.

    Giovani Lo Celso

    Age: 28
    Position: Midfielder
    Transfer value: £13.7m
    Joined: August 8, 2019
    Joining fee: £27.4m
    Tottenham appearances: 108
    Tottenham goals: 10

    Honours

  • Copa America (1): 2021

  • Ligue 1 (2): 2017-18, 2018-19

  • Coupe de France (2): 2016-17, 2017-18

  • Coupe de la Ligue (2): 2016-17, 2017-18

  • Trophee des Champions (2): 2017-18, 2018-19

  • CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions (1): 2022

  • After surprisingly staying on at Tottenham for the 2023-24 season, Giovani Lo Celso was only able to make a fleeting impression under Postecoglou and is surely heading for the exit door amid links with Aston Villa.

Which Tottenham players are out of contract in the summer of 2026?

    Rodrigo Bentancur

    Age: 27
    Position: Central midfielder
    Transfer value: £29.7m

  • Argentina Primera Division (2): 2015, 2017

  • Argentinian Cup (1): 2015

  • Two-and-a-half years into his Tottenham spell, Rodrigo Bentancur is yet to be rewarded with a new contract after his injury hell, and his situation is certainly one that will need looking at in the coming months.

    Emerson Royal

    Age: 25
    Position: Right-back
    Transfer value: £15.3m

    Joining fee: £21.2m
    Tottenham appearances: 101
    Tottenham goals: 4

    Honours

    None

Now Tottenham's second-choice right-back behind Pedro Porro, Emerson Royal could very well be sold before he enters the final year of his contract amid reports of interest from Saudi Arabia and Italy, more specifically AC Milan.

    Yves Bissouma

    Age: 27
    Position: Central midfielder
    Transfer value: £29.7m
    Joined: Jul 1, 2022
    Joining fee: £24.8m
    Tottenham appearances: 56
    Tottenham goals: 0

    Honours

    None

After a dismal first campaign under Antonio Conte, Yves Bissouma played a more important role in the Tottenham XI during Postecoglou's debut season but is yet to do enough to warrant a contract extension.
