Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher launches a critical assessment of Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier after his performance in the EFL Cup final.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has strongly criticised Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, claiming that the full-back would "put you off management".

The Ivory Coast international conceded a late free kick to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final, which consequently lead to Aymeric Laporte's winning header.

Ryan Mason's side had limited Pep Guardiola's men to fewer chances than they usually create, but it was not enough to stop Man City preventing the Lilywhites from a first major trophy in 13 years.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher said: "It's good skill [from Sterling], but it's not good enough from this man [Aurier]. Raheem Sterling is on his weak foot and crossing [the ball] for a City team that don't have a centre forward – let's not forget.

"Aurier is maybe one of the biggest liabilities in Premier League football and is a player who would possibly put you off management with the amount of crazy decisions he makes.

"We know what happened with the goal, he ends up running off the pitch allowing Sterling – the worst thing you can do – on that right foot almost get the goal."

Aurier joined Spurs in 2017 and has made 108 appearances for the club, with his most consistent game time coming in the 2019-20 campaign when he played in all but five Premier League games.
