Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini labels Harry Kane "a GOAT" after the 29-year-old became the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini has described Harry Kane as "a GOAT" after the 29-year-old broke Jimmy Greaves's all-time Spurs goalscoring record.

The England captain brought goal number 267 in Tottenham colours to propel his side to a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

After Rodri's pass to Rico Lewis was intercepted by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the Danish midfielder picked out Kane, who made no mistake with a low finish from inside the area.

In doing so, Kane surpassed the late Greaves - who registered 266 goals for Tottenham - to become the club's highest goalscorer of all time, while also joining Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney in scoring 200 Premier League goals.

The 29-year-old has reached that double-century in the quickest time too, taking 304 games compared to 306 matches for Shearer (260) and 462 for Rooney (208).

Kane's historic goal was overseen by Tottenham assistant Stellini, who took charge of Sunday's game while first-team manager Antonio Conte recovered from an operation to have his gallbladder removed.

Stellini did not hold back when waxing lyrical about Kane to Sky Sports News after the game, saying: "Harry Kane, in his DNA, he has football.

"He understands football in every moment. He can play in any position. He is a GOAT in this league, in this sport. He is a great example."

Kane was congratulated in the training room by the absent Conte, who witnessed his Tottenham side contain the Premier League champions with a dogged defensive performance after conceding four to Pep Guardiola's men at the Etihad less than a month ago.

Tottenham have now remarkably won all five of their games against Man City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - keeping a clean sheet on each occasion - as Erling Braut Haaland endured a highly frustrating evening in the capital.

Speaking in his post-game press conference, Stellini affirmed that Tottenham's performance on Sunday night was one of their best of the season, adding: "I'm so glad and so happy to have this possibility to train all the week, a special team, special players and great men.

"I have to say thanks to everyone but not only say thanks to the players but all the staff who work around the players because everyone push themselves in another level to try to cover the gap left by Antonio. We knew very well we had to so thanks to everyone.

"I think it is one of the best performances of the season. In a difficult game, in a difficult moment, I think players take responsibility in this type of situation and they play and they train very well. With this responsibility they do their best for 90 minutes. This is only difference we had today compared to the last match we played against Manchester City.

"We spoke with Antonio in the dressing room. Immediately when we arrived Antonio was on the phone and he say he was really happy. He gave compliments to everyone and especially to Harry for the record he achieved. It was amazing, he was really happy and he gave them the day off tomorrow. They enjoy a lot this moment."

Tottenham remain fifth in the Premier League table after Sunday's win but have now moved to within just one point of fourth-placed Newcastle United, who have played a game fewer.
