Southport part company with manager Kevin Davies after six months at the helm.

Southport have sacked manager Kevin Davies after just six months at the helm.

The former Bolton Wanderers striker guided the Ports to 15th in the National League North table this season, but the club said in a statement that they are seeking a more experienced head coach for next term.

"Kevin joined the club at a very difficult time, inheriting a disjointed squad on a run of heavy defeats, and a dressing room which was far from together," BBC Sport quotes Southport director Phil Hodgkinson as saying.

"As custodians of the football club, we sometimes have to make tough decisions. We feel that to achieve our ambitions for the club, we require somebody with extensive experience of both the level and also winning leagues."

Southport, who are aiming to reach the Football League in the next five years, are expected to announce Davies's successor within 14 days.
