Former Arsenal striker Eduardo is expected to snub Premier League interest and join Brazilian side Flamengo after issuing his goodbyes to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Eduardo has written Shakhtar Donetsk a thank-you statement after announcing his departure from the club.

The 31-year-old former Arsenal striker is leaving the Ukrainian outfit on a free transfer following a trophy-rich four years in which he made over 100 appearances.

Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing the Brazilian-born Croatian international back to the Premier League, but Eduardo is expected to join native side Flamengo after issuing his goodbyes to Shakhtar.

He wrote on the club's official website: "I am honoured to have represented such a fantastic club. I am proud to have been a part of four title-winning sides and I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of important people.

"Firstly, the chairman Mr Akhmetov for giving me the opportunity and believing in my talent. To Mr Lucescu who has guided me, given me the chance to play and win with such a great group of players. All of my team-mates, especially our captain Darijo [Srna]. His friendship and continued dedication on and off the pitch will always mean a lot to me.

"Finally, but most importantly, the fans. I have always felt and appreciated your support. From the first minute of my debut you made me feel like one of the Shakhtar family and for this I will always be grateful. I have loved my time in Donetsk and I only wish the very best for the club and country."

Eduardo managed 22 goals in 67 games during a spell at Arsenal that was marred by a horrific leg injury.
