Result: Scotland victorious in Zagreb

Robert Snodgrass scores the only goal of the game as Scotland triumph 1-0 in Croatia.

Scotland have dealt a massive blow to Croatia's chances of automatic qualification to next year's World Cup with a 1-0 win in Zagreb.

Robert Snodgrass's first-half goal saw the Tartan Army leave the Maksimir Stadium with all three points, which delivers a timely boost to their FIFA ranking ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifying draw.

The goal came against the run of play in the 28th minute, with Shaun Maloney bursting through the midfield to set up the Norwich City midfielder, who flicked the ball beyond Stipe Pletikosa.

The home side then piled on the pressure, creating four decent chances before the break, but Sammir, Ivan Rakitic and Ivica Olic each failed to work Allan McGregor between the sticks.

Igor Stimac's men continued to press forward after the restart, but they could not find the back of the net.

A glorious chance to draw level was wasted by Mario Mandzukic in the 61st minute. The Bayern Munich forward found himself three yards out but could not get enough on the ball to turn it towards goal.

Scotland defended bravely and kept their shape, battling towards a memorable victory.
