A cruciate knee ligament injury rules Zenit St Petersburg and Portugal midfielder Danny out of Euro 2016.

Danny has been ruled out of this summer's European Championships with a knee ligament injury.

Zenit St Petersburg confirmed earlier today that their Portugal international had suffered damage to his cruciate ligament during the weekend's game against Spartak Moscow.

He is now expected to undergo surgery, with a recovery period of around nine months to follow.

The 32-year-old also missed the previous Euros four years ago with a similar injury.

The Portuguese will also be without left-back Fabio Coentrao, who requires an operation on a thigh problem.
