Result: Late Raul Rivero strike stuns Orlando City

New MLS franchise Orlando City fall to a dramatic defeat against Vancouver Whitecaps, thanks to a stoppage-time Raul Rivero strike.

Raul Rivero's strike in the sixth minute of injury time snatched Vancouver Whitecaps a 1-0 victory away to Orlando City in the MLS.

In a cagey opening period, the first chance of note came seven minutes before the interval when Pedro Morales fired wide for the visitors after latching onto Nicolas Mezquida's pass.

The Florida outfit could have seized a half-time lead themselves when Pedro Ribeiro's long-distance effort brought a save out of keeper David Ousted.

Midway through the second half, Rivero went close to breaking the deadlock with a header from Mezquida's cross that was turned away by Donovan Ricketts.

Ribeiro again threatened from the edge of the box on 71 minutes, but his effort was wide of Ousted's goal as both teams continued to waste opportunities in attack.

The game appeared to be petering out into a draw when Rivero turned home Morales's cross deep into stoppage time to secure a dramatic away victory for the Canadians.
