Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis says that there is "no blame" on Gareth McAuley after his own goal sent Wales into the quarter-finals at Euro 2016.

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis has insisted that there is "no blame" on teammate Gareth McAuley after the defender's own goal gifted Wales a place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

Gareth Bale's cross into the box was turned into the net by McAuley, who had Hal Robson-Kanu waiting on his shoulder in the 75th minute of Saturday's last-16 clash in Paris.

"It wasn't meant to be, but we gave it everything and we can't have any regrets," Davis told BBC Sport. "I think in the first half we had better chances in the game. I don't think there was a lot in the game.

"'Big G' (McAuley) doesn't deserve that. There's no blame. We're obviously devastated but it's been a great experience."

Wales will take on either Belgium or Hungary in the final eight.
