Aston Villa's 29-year-old defender Tyrone Mings is a £35m transfer target for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has become a £35m transfer target for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

After originally joining the Villans on loan from Bournemouth in January 2019, Mings helped Villa achieve promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt during his first six months.

That prompted the West Midlands side to sign the 29-year-old for around £20m on a permanent deal from the Cherries in the summer of 2019, where he has become a regular under managers Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.

However, the England international's time at Villa Park could well be coming to an end according to the Mirror, who are reporting that Eddie Howe wishes to reunite with his former player.

Howe was the Bournemouth manager who took Mings to the south coast in an £8m deal from Ipswich Town in 2018, and the report suggests that the Newcastle boss wishes to bring him to St James' Park in the summer.

A £35m fee is reported to be the figure required in any potential deal, and the report claims that Gerrard could be tempted to sell Mings should he be able to bring in Joe Gomez as a replacement from his former club Liverpool at the end of the season.

Despite making just 17 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth during a four-year stay, Mings has gone on to make 103 for Villa across their three seasons in the top flight so far, scoring five goals.
