Newcastle United are allegedly ready to reignite their interest in a Spain Under-21 international currently plying his trade in the Saudi Pro League.

Newcastle United are reportedly giving consideration to a fresh approach for Al-Ahli midfielder Gabri Veiga.

Having lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, the Magpies still have work to do in order to qualify for next season's Champions League through a top-five finish in the Premier League table.

However, with a minimum of a Europa League spot already secured, Eddie Howe can afford to start consider potential additions for the summer transfer window.

Although Newcastle have been negatively-impacted by the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules in the past, they are believed to be in a much stronger position this time around.

As per Foot Mercato, Newcastle are among the clubs who hold an interest in Veiga ahead of next season.

European return for Veiga?

The report suggests that the 22-year-old could return to Europe over the coming months after a two-season spell in Saudi Arabia.

During that period, the Spain Under-21 international has contributed 12 goals and 10 assists from his 64 appearances in all competitions.

Nevertheless, with a contract until 2026, there is a realistic possibility of Veiga joining a European club before the start of September.

Newcastle are no strangers to holding Veiga in high regard having wanted to acquire his services in 2023 prior to him joining Al-Ahli.

Both Newcastle and Al-Ahli are owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), something that will only bolster the North East outfit's chances of signing the playmaker.

That said, it is claimed that Celta are eager to secure a reunion with Veiga at the same time as Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation.

Would Veiga fit in at Newcastle?

With Sean Longstaff being tipped to leave St James' Park and Lewis Miley not viewed as a regular starter, there is room for Veiga in this Newcastle squad.

On the flip side, he may not be viewed as a certain starter when Joelinton is fit, while Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are first-choice picks in a three-man midfield.

However, Howe is a fan of signing players who can play in more than one position and Veiga would provide an alternative down the left flank.

In the past, it has been suggested that there is a €40m (£33.7m) release clause in the player's contract.
