Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Antonio Barragan from Valencia on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old spent a year at Liverpool early in his career, but made just one senior appearance for the Reds before moving back to Spain.

The right-back enjoyed subsequent spells at Deportivo La Coruna and Valladolid before a five-year stint at Valencia, where he made more than 100 appearances.

"I am really pleased he has signed. He is a player we know a lot about and he is a good addition to the squad," manager Aitor Karanka told the club's official website.

"He is a good lad, and he has played a lot of games for Valencia. He knows this country as well because he was at Liverpool as a young player. He is a good signing for us."

Barragan becomes newly-promoted Middlesbrough's sixth signing of the summer after Viktor Fischer, Bernardo Espinosa, Marten de Roon, Victor Valdes, and Jordan McGhee.
