Middlesbrough announce that they have completed the signing of former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has signed a two-year deal with Middlesbrough.

On Wednesday, it was suggested that the Spaniard was closing in on a switch to the newly-promoted side after his departure from Old Trafford, and the North-East side have now confirmed that the former Barcelona stopper has become their fifth signing of the summer.

Head coach Aitor Karanka told the club's official website: "You can't imagine how delighted I am because it's not usual to bring players like him to recently-promoted teams.

"I'm really pleased because he is really committed. All the conversations we've had he knows why he is here and he is coming to add to what we have.

"He knows how strong this group is. It's a privilege for us to be able to bring a player like this to the club."

The 34-year-old - who won six La Liga crowns and three Champions League trophies during his time at Barcelona - ended the last campaign on loan at Standard Liege.
