Real Madrid reportedly decide against triggering David de Gea's £39m release clause in his Manchester United contract.

Real Madrid have reportedly decided against meeting the release clause in David de Gea's contract, despite retaining interest in the Manchester United goalkeeper following last summer's proposed transfer.

The 25-year-old Spaniard came close to joining Los Blancos last year, but the deal fell through at the last minute when relevant paperwork was not completed before the deadline.

In a dramatic U-turn, De Gea signed a new long-term deal at United, who are said to have included a £39m release clause which will be in place until June 15.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, while Madrid are still interested in De Gea, they will not trigger the clause as head coach Zinedine Zidane has told Keylor Navas that he will stay first choice next season.

De Gea also seems to be happy to stay at Old Trafford as he has expressed excitement to work under new manager Jose Mourinho.
