Michael Carrick is reportedly being offered the chance to extend his stay at Manchester United by Jose Mourinho.

Supposed incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly sanctioned a new contract for Michael Carrick.

As it stands, the 34-year-old is due to become a free agent next month when his current deal expires.

However, ESPN claims that Mourinho, who is expected to replace the sacked Louis van Gaal in the near future, is keen to retain the midfielder's services.

The report adds that the offer on the table is likely to be a 12-month extension.

A recent report claimed that Carrick would be open to the prospect of staying at Old Trafford if Mourinho were appointed.
